Methodology
About FOI Monitor
A public-interest workflow for scanning and verifying Australian Government FOI disclosures.
Coverage
FOI Monitor currently tracks 25 departments and agencies. Coverage expands as reliable scraper support is added.
How summaries are generated
Summaries are generated by an AI model to support triage. They are guidance only and should always be checked against the original source documents. The model can omit nuance when source files are heavily redacted, image-only, or unusually large.
Data freshness
The pipeline runs a daily scrape and a weekly wider scan for backfill coverage. The freshness strip at the top of each page shows the latest observed run time.
Limitations
Disclosure formats vary by department. Missing references, inconsistent metadata, and inaccessible files can affect completeness in some records.
Source and transparency
FOI Monitor is open source and designed for evidence-first workflows. Source URLs and document links are kept prominent so claims can be verified quickly.
